MALA PRAYER BEADS

I create custom mala necklaces on commission. It all started with a project to benefit a Tibetan charity, in collaboration with Jette Holm. I designed the pendant for the necklace, and Jette selected the stones based on their colors and energy. Since then, it has evolved into many different types of unique mala necklaces.

A mala prayer beads were originally worn by monks. There are 108 beads on a mala, and it is used when the monks pray. Each bead symbolizes each time they have recited their mantra.

 Your personal mala necklace

I create custom mala necklaces—designed according to your wishes. You may have an idea or a symbol in mind, or you might prefer that I come up with a design proposal. I can also create a " soul image," where I draw out the essence of your personal development journey and weave it into your own personal healing symbol. The possibilities are endless. If you’re interested, I’d recommend that we meet here at the workshop one day to discuss the possibilities in more detail.

 Symbols

There are countless symbols that can be used in a mala necklace. Really, the only limit is your imagination. It could be a sphere, a triangle, a square, a Buddha figure, an animal, a chakra symbol, or anything else that holds meaning for you. As I mentioned above, you can also choose to combine the mala necklace with a personal soul image. This will provide a powerful tool for personal development that you can choose to work with further in meditation. It all depends on where you are in your process and what you desire.

On the Mala beads for the Tibet Charity, the mantra “Om mani padme hum” is engraved on the surface of the bottom bead. It is a Buddhist mantra that means “the jewel in the lotus flower.”

Gemstones & Crystals

The choice of stones for your personal mala necklace is entirely up to you. We can use your favorite stone—or we can select one based on your personal journey. It’s entirely up to you.

All gemstones and crystals emit vibrations and energies. They can be used for healing, amplification, support, and much more. I recommend Jette Holm’s book *The Crystal Key* as a helpful and accessible resource for understanding the effects of gemstones.

A mala necklace truly offers the opportunity to harness the power of the stones. The 108 beads can be customized with different stones, depending on the energy you wish to infuse into the piece. The clasp that holds the necklace together can also be adorned with gemstones.

The colors of the stones are also linked to the chakra they resonate with. I’ve created a collection of chakra jewelry in collaboration with Jette Holm, which might also serve as inspiration when choosing stones for your mala necklace.

I generally pay close attention to the materials used in my jewelry. You can read more about my main gemstones here. Otherwise, I can of course source just about any other type of gemstone or crystal you might want.

 Tibet Charity

The Mala Prayer Beads project is something I started with Tibet Charity in 2017, when they celebrated their 20th anniversary. They called me one day and asked if I would like to collaborate with them, and of course I was happy to. I immediately contacted Jette Holm, Denmark’s uncrowned queen of crystals, who is an expert in the energies of crystals and gemstones, and together we set to work designing and developing the new necklaces—based on a thousand-year-old tradition.

A mala prayer bead necklace was originally worn by monks. There are 108 beads on a mala, and it is used when the monks pray. Each bead symbolizes each time they have recited their mantra. The mala prayer bead necklaces for Tibet Charity thus create a connection to Tibet and the monks in Tibet.

The bead on the mala necklace is inspired by the Tibet Charity logo, featuring four small hearts that form squares when joined together. They are repeated all the way around the bead. At the top, I have engraved the Buddhist mantra “Om mani padme hum” in Sanskrit.

Tibet Charity is making a huge difference for the Tibetan residents of Dharamsala, who now have access to better healthcare services, including doctors and home nursing care, as well as improved animal welfare. In addition, a school has been built that provides local children and young people with an education in subjects such as English.

In 2019, I traveled with Tibet Charity to Dharamsala, India. It was a fantastic and enlightening trip in so many ways. Not least because I got to visit His Holiness the Dalai Lama. If you’d like to read more, I’ve written about the trip on my blog right here.
